What's the best kids lunchbox?
It's a question we get asked a lot and our answer is always the same… whatever one works for your child and you! But there are a few things to consider.
Buying a lunchbox and all the bits that accompany it can be expensive, but think of it as an investment, because:
- It’s going to make your lunchbox-packing-life so much easier. A lunchbox that meets all your needs and is easy to clean, is going to keep you sane and motivated.
- It’s going to give you more options for the kinds of foods you can securely pack without the risk of leakage, be kept at food safe temperatures and suit the schools food break policies (crunch ‘n’ sip/fruit break etc.)
- If it’s a lunchbox your child likes visually, finds easy to use and is age appropriate (this is important), suits their style of eating (also important as they may prefer a simple presentation over multi-compartment bento style) and basically enjoys opening everyday, then there’s more change they’ll eat what’s inside it. This can be especially helpful if your child is already feeling “different” because their friends are eating packets of food, so a lunchbox that’s the same might help them to feel less different and happy to eat what you’ve packed. So get the kids input here and choose one that meets your needs and their tastes.
- If it’s a good quality and durable lunchbox, you might not need to buy another one for a few years or it can be handed down to a younger sibling, saving you money.
- Choosing a lunchbox that’s made of sustainable materials is an investment in the health of the planet of our kids future.
There are so many options out there but we’ve always used and loved the stainless steel ones by PlanetBox, LunchBots, U-Konserve, Ever Eco and Ecococoon (we're not affiliated with any of these brands).
